CANDIDATES FOR COORDINATING COMMITTEE AND THEIR BIOS:

*****

Meg Buckingham
Clovis, Fresno County

Hello, my name is Meg Buckingham.  I'm with the Fresno County Green Party. I've been an active Green Party member since 2016.

I'm running for Coordinating Committee to be another voice for & from the Central Valley. Thanks!

-----
Susan Chunco
Sonoma County

This is my candidate application for election to the GPCA Coordinating Committee.

I'm a woman who has been active in the Green Party since 2000.

My GP experience includes serving as a member of the County Council of the Green Party of Sonoma County - currently serving on the County Council and over a decade of past service, an alternate from the Green Party of Sonoma County to GPCA General Assembly and Standing General Assembly.

I have previously served on the GPCA Coordinating Committee,GPCA and GPUS Finance Committees, Green Party of Sonoma Treasurer, and GPUS Steering Committee.  I have also attended most of the GPUS Annual National Meetings.

I have served as a GPCA delegate to the National Committee thru 2017, and again for a few years starting in 2019.  I also am currently on the GPCA Finance Committee.

I would like to utilize my extensive Green Party experience to assist the GPCA by serving on the Coordinating Committee as I'd like us to accomplish successful efforts in recruiting additional people into the Green Party.

Charisse Cordero
Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara County

Hello!

I am a female retired educator and am applying for this CC position because I would like to serve the California Green Party at different levels. I learn so much from my fellow Greens all the time. California is such a huge state that it helps to talk to  party members from other regions. The same can be said for the national GP scene. This interaction never fails to enhance our knowledge and inform our activism at the local level.

I am currently serving on our Santa Barbara County Council, have attended the state General Assembly as a Standing Delegate , and served as a delegate to the Presidential Nominating Convention in 2020. My work as a Green has been mainly involved in local environmental issues and, because my husband and children are tribal citizens, indigenous rights.

At present, we are working to provide affordable housing for families in our area and in fighting the oil companies who wish to despoil our beautiful coastline.

Sean Dougherty
Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County

I have participated in GPCA’s Membership and Outreach Committee (MOC) since 2022 and have been a co-chair of the MOC since 2023.

I ran for US House as a Green in the 2024 primary. Also in the 2024 primary, I reactivated the Santa Cruz County Council by getting on the county ballot for the Green Central Committee. These two activities have allowed me to recruit some key activists in my county who had previously switched from G to D in order to vote for Sanders in 2016. I intend to organize my congressional district around opposition to the incumbent in order to mount a stronger challenge in 2026.

Within the past year, I succeeded in updating GPCA’s NationBuilder with recent Secretary of State voter registration data – a project that had been stalled for years. I am now in the process of another database update. I hope to use the data to further engage our registered members, with a focus on growing our membership, likely through the Stein campaign.

Given these activities, I think it would be valuable to have my presence on the CC – information flowing in both directions would be helpful.

Ann Garrison
Alameda County

I became a registered Green at some point between 2000 and 2005, can't remember which year precisely, but I have been active, first as a San Francisco Green, then as an Alameda County Green. By active I mean that I have attended meetings and responded to calls for Greens to show up and speak at City Councils and Boards of Supervisors meetings.

I am a journalist, specifically a Contributing Editor to Black Agenda Report, and a contributor to the San Francisco Bay View Newspaper, Black Star News, Counterpunch, Consortium News, Global Research, Pambazuka News, and Pacifica Radio. I produce news for KPFA-Berkeley and work on "Covid, Race, and Democracy," a weekly national Pacifica Radio show. I have often covered Green politics and in 2016, I co-hosted Pacifica's coverage of the Green Party Presidential Nominating Convention in Houston. When the coverage began I introduced myself as "an embedded journalist, because I'm a registered Green covering the Green Party Convention."

Jane Jarlsberg
San Bernardino County

i am jane jarlsberg. i am a retired grandmother and community activist. i live in san bernardino county, joshua tree.  i have been registered green since 1999.  i have held office as a green in mendocino county, gualala, CA; kent county, michigan, grand rapids, and here in sb county. i am current elected board director for joshua basin water district. i would like to represent san bernardino county in future CA green party activities.  thank you for your consideration.

Susan Collier Lamont
Santa Rosa, Sonoma County

My name is Susan Collier Lamont and I am just beginning my third term on the County Council of the Green Party of Sonoma County. I have been a member of the Green Party for more than twenty years and active locally for more than ten. I am also a CA Alternate Delegate to the National Committee of the GPUS and am running again this year.

I am an active member of the Peace Action Committee, working primarily on creating informational webinars on the many flashpoint around the world.

I am also active with Veterans For Peace and our local Peace & Justice Center. My focus is around antiwar issues, law enforcement oversight and income inequality. As such, I believe that we must work with other organizations that share our values.

My main party focus has been spreading the word about the Green Party, its work and its values and countering the argument that a Green vote is a wasted vote. I believe that a vote against one's values is a wasted vote. A Green vote is both a protest against the current system and an affirmation of the Ten Key Values.

James Lauderdale
Los Angeles County

I have been a registered Green since 2004, where I supported Peter Camejo, and continuing after in his several State and Federal election efforts. I had known Peter for over forty years. We had met and been associated in the Socialist movement beginning in the 1960's. Before retiring in 2014, I worked for seventeen years at SEIU in the capacity of organizer, and then doing administrative litigation as lead senior civil service advocate, defending workers who were facing disciplinary action in the civil service system covering blue collar workers in the City of Los Angeles and thirteen other cities in LA County;

We need to register thousands more Green voters across the state to open the California Green Party to being a truly statewide party. We need to fashion a national party not just fifty statewide party. We need to be an electoral vehicle for the movements that are emerging.

Don Manro
City of Tulare, Tulare County

I can’t say that I have a vision for serving on an executive committee such as the CC. However, I will apply my limited time and experience, exercise due diligence and seek to work cooperatively and in collaboration with other committee members.

I have been a member of the County Council of the Tulare County Green Party since its inception. I am currently a member of the CA General Assembly Standing Committee and an alternate for the CA Delegation to the National Committee. Previously, I was a one-year-term delegate to that committee.

James McFadden
Berkeley, Alameda County

I’m currently the Treasurer of the Alameda County Green Party. I’m also a member of KPFA’s Local Station Board (Pacifica Radio). I joined the Greens about 12 years ago after reading our platform and deciding this was the Party for me. I started regularly attending Alameda Green Party meetings just over seven years ago and was recently re-elected to the County Council. I’ve been a research physicist at UC Berkeley since 1985.

I consider myself an anti-capitalist, anti-racist, and feminist. I believe that endless wars, racism, climate change, and economic inequality are rooted in capitalism which is reinforced by our one-party system, the “Business Party” with its Democratic and Republican wings. I believe a primary goal of the Greens must be revealing the corruption of one-party corporate control of the government in order to build a massive Leftist movement. I work with local groups promoting more democratic participation and against intertwined forms of oppression. I’m an avid reader of history, political analysis, and economics – especially books address national and global structures. I’m interested in Green Party efforts to develop strategies of resistance to plutocratic and corporate rule.

Shannel Pittman
East Los Angeles, Los Angeles County

My name is Shannel Pittman and I am asking for your support to be elected to the Green Party of California Coordinating Committee. I’ve been a Green since 2016 and would like to continue publicizing our party’s legislative interest and improve the public’s understanding of our platform. I desperately want to build a strategic plan for our state that includes outreach to much neglected demographics and an increased focus on accessibility within our Party.

I am a Black Disabled Muslim woman who is queer, Asexual-Panromantic to be specific. I grew up in Los Angeles and have been active in my community's struggles surrounding environmental racism, excessive community surveillance, and alternatives to incarceration. Our platform addresses these issues, but the people don’t know these details, I want to change that.

I currently serve on the GPUS Delegation as the National Lavender Caucus Delegate and am a GPUS Diversity Committee Cochair.

Lastly, I recognize my life sits at extremely unique intersections and will always seek additional opinion when handling a subject I am not familiar with, because true intersectional activism requires that we never exclude an affected community from the conversation.

Rohan Sabnis
Redwood City, San Mateo

I am a half-Indian and half-Chinese American man born and raised in California.  Since the first election in which I was eligible to vote (26 years ago), I have supported the Green Party.  I volunteered for the 2016 Jill Stein campaign and have volunteered for several Green campaigns. I have also attended most of the General Assemblies of the GPCA for the last seven years, including the 2020 Presidential Nominating Convention (as a delegate). I am currently serving on the Coordinating Committee and as a California delegate to GPUS and have voted on almost all of the GPUS proposals.

I believe in reducing animal suffering. That is why I have been volunteering for The Humane League and other organizations. I gathered signatures for different measures in Berkeley and Sonoma County to end factory farming that will appear on the ballot in November.

Finally, I also believe in ecological sustainability and restoring damaged ecosystems. In the Antelope Valley, I participated in a cleanup and worked in a community garden (weeding, digging holes and planting crops and trees, etc.).

I hope to continue representing the voices of people of color and of California on the CC. Thank you for your consideration.

John Schmit
Salida, Stanislaus County

I have been a member of the California Green Party since 2014 and spearheaded the re-activation of the Green Party in Stanislaus County. I am the current Liaison to Registrar of Voters for the Stanislaus County Green Party. I was active in the Presidential campaigns of both the 2016 Jill Stein and 2020 Howie Hawkins. I have previously served on the GPCA Coordinating Committee.

My roots in the fight for a voice in the American Political system go back to my maternal grandmother who marched as a suffragette in the effort for women to gain the right to vote. My parents were active in the Non-Partisan League and Farmers Union seeking a voice in Agrarian Politics. In the 1960's I was a member of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee working for the end of the Vietnam War and equal treatment for all.

The Green Party is uniquely positioned to provide a values based voice in opposition to the corporate duopoly dominating the government of the USA.  I will work diligently to pursue that end as a member of the GPCA Coordinating Committee.

Chris Specker (legally Christy Ann Specker)
Alameda County

Prior experiences: I am a business owner (20+ Years), lifelong activist, mother, and Green Party Member.

I own It's Your Move Games, a store in Oakland, California. We try to be more than a business: as a community hub and active member of the Temescal Business Improvement District, we're trying to build a safer, more inclusive, and friendlier environment here in North Oakland. We are also the Oakland Green Party's current headquarters.

I have been an activist my entire life primarily working for economic justice, racial equality, better public schools, a cleaner, healthier environment, and as a community builder.

As a mother with a daughter in public school, I am active in fundraising, volunteer efforts, and supporting the teachers' fight for better pay and working conditions.

My vision for the future of the Green Party: We need to bring more young people into politics. I believe the Green Party is the best place for young people to become politically active. We can actively reach out to young voters and activists through voter drives, equity projects, and  listening to youth issues (like school safety, resources for low income students and gender equality)...

I firmly believe in a multi-party system and would be happy to support the Green Party on the state coordinating committee.

Audra Walton
Marina, Monterey County

Please consider this email as my formal application for re-election to the Green Party of California Coordinating Committee. Having had the honor of serving in this role previously, I am eager to continue contributing to our collective efforts. In addition, I currently hold positions on the Green Party Monterey County County Council and serve as the Vice Chair of the City of Marina, CA, Planning Commission. I am also preparing to run for City Council in 2026.

My aspiration for another term on the Coordinating Committee centers around fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for both young and new members of the Green Party. It is my belief that by doing so, we can not only grow our ranks but also fortify the foundations of our party. My dedication to our planet, its inhabitants, and the pursuit of peace remains unwavering.

Laura Wells
Alameda County

I am applying for the state Coordinating Committee so that I can continue to serve and help keep the Green Party and its values alive and sustainable. The two Titanic Parties have been trying to kill us off since our birth as a ballot-qualified party in 1992, but they haven’t succeeded because we won’t stop. The Green Party’s values are way too important: peace, justice, ecology, and real democracy, combined with the commitment to take NO CORPORATE MONEY. The Green Party serves as an effective “progressive think tank,” taking the lead regarding legalizing cannabis, legalizing same-sex marriage, public banking, the real Green New Deal, reparations and many other policies which at first seem unachievable.

I have run for statewide public office, especially state Controller, and for Governor in 2010, with the platform of "tax the rich" and public banking. I am also grateful to be among the hundreds of Green Party colleagues who do vital behind-the-scenes work. I have been a spokesperson, edited local and state Green Party newspapers, and I write a monthly blog that can be found at my website https://laurawells.org/
